State Rep. Mark Tisdel today welcomed Amanda Reed to the Michigan Capitol as his special guest for the House of Representatives’ annual ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the 2001 terrorist attacks.

This year marks 25 years since terrorists attacked the World Trade Center and the Pentagon and passengers aboard Flight 93 fought back against their hijackers. Nearly 3,000 people were killed in the attacks.

“Sept. 11 is a solemn day in our nation’s history and one that deserves our attention every year,” said Tisdel. “We pause to remember the people who left home that morning and never returned, the families who have lived with that loss for 25 years and the first responders whose bravery in the face of unimaginable circumstances continues to inspire us.”

Tisdel said the anniversary is also an opportunity to reflect on the sense of shared purpose Americans demonstrated following the attacks.

“The days after Sept. 11 showed how quickly Americans can set aside our differences when our neighbors and our country need us,” Tisdel said. “That spirit of unity, compassion and gratitude for those who serve is worth remembering alongside the tragedy of that day.”
